Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

I thought it would be fitting to introduce my blog to the world on Mother’s Day (as we celebrate it in the states), which is always celebrated on the second Sunday in May (ahem… for you fathers out there who may have just forgotten to request the day off to honor the mother of your children 😉 You know who you are, MASOUD). Mothering is a tireless job, not for the faint of heart. It constantly breaks me downs and builds me back up. I wouldn’t exchange this exhilirating roller coaster ride  for anything in the world. I am thankful for my kids each and every day.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL YOU WONDERFUL PERSIAN MOMMAS (AND ALL MOMMAS FROM AROUND THE WORLD)!

It melts my heart to be so loved by these tiny humans with big hearts who love their momma despite all her imperfections. Here are their gifts:

I feel very loved. I have cracked the code on the purple sheet (as we still have a ways to go on spelling) and it reads as follows:

Mommy… extraordinary, loving, kind

Mother of… Nikki, Sina, Omid

Lover of… Family, chocolate, coffee

Who feels … Happy when we follow directions

Who needs…. Rest, family, love

Who gives… food, presents

Who fears… spiders, dogs

Who would like to see… her mom, dad, brothers

This little 6 year-old knows me better than I know myself! Kids are so sharp and keen and pick up on things that we may not even realize. This just made me laugh, and then teary-eyed and speechless, especially the part where she senses and knows how much I miss my own family.

I hope your mother’s day is filled with love, laughter, and joy and the sounds of your little one(s) giggles. I hope you are able to enjoy it remembering, honoring, and (for those lucky ones to have their mom close by) holding your own mom and telling her how much she means to you.

I wanted to share some Persian poetry about mothers as I find Persian poetry truly enchanting and poetic indeed, but my skills and resources are limited. So please feel free to share your favorite poem about mothers with me and if needed I will do my best to translate it. Thanks for reading!
